Contrary is a venture fund that identifies the world's top early-career engineers, designers, and product minds, connects them with a close-knit, career-long support community, and invests in companies they start or join. What's in it for you

We're a people-first firm. Our founder Eric is a lifelong entrepreneur who previously started a mobile payments company and a quantitative hedge fund. Our investor Will learned to code and built apps with 100k+ users by age 16. We've assembled a diverse community of 300+ of the brightest college students and recent graduates who will make up the industry of tomorrow.

As Head of Events, you'll design and orchestrate dozens of virtual and in-person events nationwide spanning many different contexts and objectives. With competitive comp and upside in the venture fund, we intend to partner with you for the long-haul. You will report to the Head of Platform, Nina Stepanov.

What you'll do

• Host intimate gatherings with members in our network
• Spearhead our events strategy and build-out a multi-year calendar that feels unique to us
• Work closely with our content and community team to unify our message
• Track event attendees to identify rising talent
• Interview successful entrepreneurs and investors to produce high quality content for events
• Have fun meeting hundreds of dynamic and pleasant people

Preferred qualities

• 5-7 years of experience running events, ideally with experience building the practice strategically and from scratch
• You're versatile and able to create stellar experiences in all contexts
• You're experienced with the details: the little things go a long way at our events
• You're empathetic to everyone, and understand the nuanced problems our audience faces
• You're a startup nerd like us, and love working with entrepreneurs
• You can learn new tools as necessary to get the job done, and are not tied to a specific tool stack
• You work hard enough to be a world-class operator, but don't make work your whole life
• You're energized by autonomy and working alongside a team

Education Requirements: None. High quality education is of course a plus, but half of our team dropped out of college! We are very amenable to alternative backgrounds.

Location: Remote preferred. We will be HQ'd in San Francisco after the pandemic, but team members have the option to stay remote.
